Does Green Wall Coffee serve matcha?
Yes. A matcha latte costs 4.20 euros in the café, made with Japanese matcha and Indonesian coconut blossom sugar. The same powder is available as a 150-gram tin for 13.50 euros to take home.
What is in it
The matcha latte powder consists of exactly two ingredients: Japanese matcha and Indonesian coconut blossom sugar. No flavourings, no anti-caking agents, no milk powder base — unlike many ready-made matcha mixes, which are mostly sugar and additives.
According to the manufacturer the powder contains none of the 14 major allergens and works with cow's milk just as well as with oat, pea or coconut.
Why coconut blossom sugar
Coconut blossom sugar is drawn from the nectar of the coconut palm flower. It brings a caramel sweetness that rounds off the grassy, slightly bitter base note of matcha rather than covering it, which refined sugar tends to do.
Matcha at home
The 150-gram tin costs 13.50 euros and makes around 20 drinks — about 7 grams of powder per 200 ml of milk. Preparation is simple: stir the powder into a little milk in the glass first, then top up and froth. Mixing first and filling second keeps the kitchen clean.
A simple milk frother is enough — no bamboo whisk, no matcha equipment required.
In practice at Green Wall Coffee
At the café at Sophienstraße 27 in Berlin-Lichtenberg the matcha latte is what many people reach for on the days when it should not be coffee. Matcha does contain caffeine, too.
