Why are some cafes laptop-free?

Many cafes ban laptops in the dining area because screens disrupt the cozy atmosphere, prevent conversations, and increasingly turn the cafe into a silent open-plan office.

Preserving the culture of encounter

More and more specialty cafes are consciously deciding against the use of laptops in the main dining area. First and foremost, a cafe should be a place of encounter and enjoyment. If every second table is taken up by people silently staring at their screens, the social dynamic suffers enormously. Conversations become quieter, the inhibition threshold for spontaneous interaction rises, and the original charm of the cafe as a neighborhood meeting point is lost.

Our solution at Green Wall Coffee

At Green Wall Coffee at Sophienstraße 27 in Berlin-Lichtenberg, we have found a middle ground that fulfills both needs. The main room of our cafe is completely laptop-free so that all guests can converse freely and undisturbed. Anyone who still wants to work concentratedly on their laptop can do so quite relaxed in our adjoining small coworking space — undisturbed and among like-minded people.

Drop by Sophienstraße 27 — Mon–Fri 8am–5pm, Sat 10am–5pm.
